Meet Dr Dobson

MBBS(Hons), BMedSci(Hons), MP, FRANZCP,
Cert. Consul. Liaison Psych.

I am a psychiatrist with a special interest and experience in women’s mental health, particularly perinatal psychiatry. I provide evidence-based care for people navigating the mental health challenges that can arise around conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

Alongside my private practice, I hold a public consultant appointment with the Women’s Mental Health Service at the Royal Women’s Hospital. This role allows me to remain closely engaged with public healthcare, contribute to multidisciplinary care, and support the education of medical students and junior clinicians.

I have experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of a broad range of adult psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and adjustment difficulties, particularly as they relate to reproductive and perinatal transitions. My approach is collaborative and patient-centred, with attention to the biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors that shape each person’s experience.

I am committed to providing a respectful, affirming, and non-judgmental space where people feel heard, supported, and able to make informed decisions about their care.

I do not undertake assessments or prepare reports for third parties, including employers, insurance companies, or courts.

Background

I am a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and hold a Certificate of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. I completed my specialist training through the Alfred Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, and I am trained in the Circle of Security Parenting Protocol.

In addition to my clinical work, I am involved in research with Monash University and the Royal Melbourne Hospital, allowing me to remain engaged with emerging evidence and clinical practice. I hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and a Bachelor of Medical Science from Monash University, and a Master of Psychiatry from the University of Melbourne.
