My Areas of Practice
I focus on providing compassionate, personalised, and evidence-based care to women in every stage of life. This can include the management of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, advice regarding medication use prior to conception, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, anxiety related to childbirth, adjustment to parenting and perimenopausal mental health.
-
Mental health care around conception, pregnancy, and breastfeeding often involves complex decisions about medication. I provide evidence-based advice to help you understand risks and benefits, and to support informed choices that align with your health, values, and circumstances — before conception, during pregnancy, and in the postnatal period.
-
I assess and treat a range of mood and anxiety conditions that can arise during pregnancy or after birth. My care is focussed on developing a collaborative care plan which involves your broader care team, including obstetricians and general practitioners. I endeavour to focus on both symptom relief and longer-term wellbeing.
-
Obsessive–compulsive disorder can involve intrusive, unwanted thoughts and repetitive behaviours that feel distressing or difficult to control. OCD commonly emerges or intensifies during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
I provide specialist assessment and evidence-based treatment for OCD, including support around the appropriate use of medication, and close collaboration with psychologists to support effective, coordinated care.
-
Pregnancy and the postnatal period can be times of increased vulnerability for individuals with bipolar disorder or a history of psychosis. I provide specialist assessment, medication management, and close monitoring, working alongside your broader care team to support stability, and continuity of care.
-
Fear and anxiety around pregnancy, labour, or birth can be overwhelming and isolating. I support individuals experiencing pregnancy-related anxiety and distress linked to previous birth experiences. Often, this will involve developing a comprehensive mental health birth plan together and collaboration with your broader care team.
-
A difficult or traumatic birth can have lasting emotional effects, even when outcomes appear “good.” I work with individuals experiencing symptoms of trauma or post-traumatic stress following birth, supporting recovery while recognising the complexity of holding both connection to a baby and distress about the birth experience.
-
Becoming a parent can involve profound shifts in identity, relationships and expectations. I support individuals navigating the immense challenges of early parenthood, including mourning their previous self and difficulties with bond.
-
Hormonal fluctuations can have a significant impact on mood and emotional well-being. I have expertise in the assessment and management of cyclical mood disorders, including premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Identification of PMDD is crucial for effective management. Together, we can work to optimise your emotional well-being, improve communication and understanding within relationships, and improve your quality of life.
-
Assessment and management of mood disorders arising in the perimenopausal period is vital. Perimenopausal and menopausal depression can have a significant impact on daily life and relationships. I will work with you to provide appropriate, evidence-based mental health care during this life stage.
How I work
I am a founding director of the Women’s and Reproductive Mental Health Collective (WARM Health Collective).
At WARM, care is collaborative, timely, and affirming. Depending on your needs, your care may involve a small, connected team working alongside you.
As your psychiatrist, I provide specialist assessment and develop an evidence-based treatment plan, monitor your progress, and support your recovery and longer-term wellbeing goals.
You may also work with a nurse practitioner, who provides continuity between psychiatry appointments — checking in on symptoms, adjusting medication when needed, and supporting the day-to-day changes that affect your mental health.
Psychological therapy is provided by a psychologist, who offers focused, evidence-based treatment to help you understand emotional patterns, develop coping strategies, and support sustained wellbeing.
As a team, we work closely with your GP, obstetrician, and other care providers to ensure care is coordinated, responsive, and genuinely connected.
